In June 2024, a new milestone was reached in the energy transition of Central America’s aquaculture industry with the commissioning of a 1 MW photovoltaic system at a shrimp processing plant located in Choluteca, Honduras.

The project was fully developed by Conexsol, encompassing design, engineering, supply, installation, and commissioning, while supporting the client throughout the entire transformation process toward a more efficient, predictable, and sustainable operation.

Technology Designed for Industrial Operation

The solar plant was conceived under industrial-grade standards, integrating world-class equipment:

  • Canadian Solar photovoltaic modules
  • K2 Systems mounting structures
  • SolarEdge inverters with module-level monitoring

This system architecture optimizes energy production, enhances operational reliability, and reduces dependence on conventional power sources, directly contributing to a lower carbon footprint in the production process.

A Project with International Reach

As part of the implementation, an official visit was conducted by representatives of the United States Embassy, who toured the facility and learned about the system’s operation.

During the technical walkthrough, system performance indicators were presented, along with the economic, environmental, and social benefits that this type of energy infrastructure delivers to both the productive sector and the local community.

This institutional presence reinforces the regional importance of initiatives that promote industrial modernization through clean energy.

More Than a Solar Plant

This project represents a structural shift in how energy is consumed within the aquaculture sector. Photovoltaic generation not only reduces operating costs, but also improves financial predictability and strengthens the industry’s international competitiveness.

For Conexsol, the end-to-end execution of this system consolidates its position as a strategic partner for industrial photovoltaic solutions in Latin America, demonstrating that solar energy is a reliable, scalable infrastructure tailored to high-demand production processes.

The 1 MW installation in Choluteca confirms that the energy transition in industry is no longer a future projection—it is an operational reality.
